DancePixOnline.com is now up and running!

Posted by | June 15, 2010

In summer of 2009 we were approached to redesign and relaunch Dancepixonline.com. The client had requested a fresh design and a cost-effective way to catalogue and serve photos taken at competitions to friends and family of the competitors. With a small budget to work with, a creative approach had to be taken to accomplish the client’s objectives.

To reduce costs a file-based image engine was created, allowing the client to administrate their image content via ftp. A custom application was created to generate the required thumbnails to reduce load times and site bandwidth overhead, avoiding an inline process that would slow content delivery to end users.

Although the client already had a basic site, a redesign was commissioned to accommodate the newly introduced functionality. A revised logo accompanied a new site layout, prominently featuring the cyan-magenta-pink-black colour scheme (more commonly known as CMYK). The colours were chosen deliberately to reflect the inks used in printing photographs, as anyone who has ever changed a printer cartridge is sure to recognize. The client was satisfied with the improved functionality and new site, and dance competitors from all over Ontario are now able to easily view their event photos online!

Etobicoke Humane Society launches new site

Posted by | July 1, 2010

When their old hosting provider discontinued the service of their Cold Fusion based website, the Etobicoke Humane Society found themselves without a home on the internet. Starting out as a request for information on a website rebuild in ASP.NET, the project quickly grew to include a redesign and implementation of a simple CMS.

With a new clean layout, and a fresh site created in ASP.NET, a custom CMS tool was created to update all existing web pages, register users, create special features and add adoption pages. The client also asked for the ability to solicit donations, so PayPal services were easily integrated into the site. To round things out, SmashReality included search engine optimization to improve search results in all major search engines, and Google analytics to track user impressions on the site.
