Bureau Veritas Laboratories is a North American provider of analytical services and solutions to the environmental, energy, food, DNA and industrial hygiene industries with an extensive laboratory network in Canada. Their work supports critical decisions that improve performance, reduce risk or help customers meet safety, quality and regulatory objectives.

When BV asked us to help design a portal for customers to retrieve and review lab results quickly and securely, we got to work. The result was a highly efficient and fully responsive progressive web application that seamlessly streamed in data from a number of existing backend systems. Clients are able to log in, place equipment orders, submit samples, see results, and pay invoices all in one convenient location.

When we were invited to tour Bureau Veritas’ Mississauga food testing lab, we saw endless opportunities to improve efficiency. The lab was operating on a traditional pen-and-paper system, with thousands of sample results being recorded, collected, and indexed every day. Auditing was difficult and required manual searching through stacks and stacks of paper. For a business that prides itself on expediency and accuracy, changes had to be made.

Our solution introduced a complete software suite based around QR and 2D barcode scans, creating a digital paper trail for every sample, right from unloading off delivery vehicles all the way through to portioning, testing, incubating, and archiving. Every action by every lab technician is captured and logged as soon as they sign in using their ID badge. The entire system can be searched and audited in moments, creating a secure environment that clients can trust.
